Government -- especially municipal -- should have very little to nothing to do with economic development in Nokomis.
As mayor, I would use my connections and ongoing involvement with not-for-profit, fraternal/sorority and business organizations within the community to spearhead any new economic developments within the city.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, I've been pleased to see new businesses coming to town and await many more coming into town in the near future.
As the stewards of our community, it should require a community effort to attract new businesses, rather than the government doing all the legwork.
Most of the new businesses that have opened in 2020 or are opening in 2021 should be proof enough that you don't need the City of Nokomis to get involved in economic development matters.
