This one will require much more work. It makes zero sense in the 21st century to have so many taxing districts in the City of Nokomis. As Nokomis CUSD #22 takes a lion's share of property taxes, we really need to do our part to cut down on the number of governmental bodies in Illinois. Currently, we have nearly 7,000 bodies of government.
So, how does this relate to Nokomis? Do we really need all these taxing bodies in Nokomis?
Our library board has been working on a partial not-for-profit status because they receive minimal funds from the township. We occasionally give them monetary donations.
So, why can't we do this with the park district?
And why can't we pursue consolidating township operations with the city?
In order to reduce taxation rates and save taxpayer money, we really need to consider all options.
